The methodology includes a study of the pertinent records of related judicatories and their agents, interviews of knowledgeable persons, a survey of presbyters using a standard instrument and a comparative statistical analysis of membership and financial data. It provides a leader's guide and student book which develop positive attitudes about adults, the role of youth in the life of the church and conflict. It gives information about the polity and structure of the United Methodist Church and helps in developing skills in communication and group process. For this reason ministerial training programs do not reflect a strong prophetic dimension.  Rather, they show a strong bias toward the priestly perspective.  The methods of the study are 1) a review of literature in priestly and prophetic ministry, supervised pastoral education, values, the effect of secularism on ministry, the need for balance in ministry; 2) a survey of value attitudes in seventy SPE supervisors; 3) an analysis of data from the survey. This project contributes to the establishment of a firm theological foundation for KEC ecumenical participation. It provides a theological critique of some of the anti-ecumenical arguments among the KEC and Korean churches and analyzes the reasons why the KEC withdrew from the KNCC in 1961. Although they comprise a significant proportion of lay leadership, deacons are frequently underused and appear to flounder.  This project examines this ministry of the deacon and provides specific options for its improvement.  Through the use of surveys and in-depth interviews, the project identifies four pivotal areas where deacons appear to flounder: 1) biblical-historical roots; 2) understanding their role as 'the Body' of Christ; 3) servanthood; 4) purposeful organization.
