This project explores the apologetics of Lewis from a pastoral perspective.  Lewis understood that Western society is profoundly secular in tone.  He wrote so as to appeal to secular people.  Lewis defended 'mere' Christianity, an understanding of the faith which was co-extensive with the ancient creeds; he resisted sectarianism and theological faddishness. Lewis's intellectual approach was augmented by a lifestyle which this thesis calls 'pastoral apologetics'. It points out some mistakes made in the past and ways of overcoming or avoiding similar mistakes in the future.  The thesis is that handicapped persons are accepted by God as they are and should be accepted into the mainstream of the Church as valuable persons.  It is based on a reading of the Bible from the perspective of human wholeness which takes seriously the theology of the imputation of wholeness. This project uses the focused interview to identify transitional difficulties and the availability of assistance in these categories: theological, personal, economic, familial and relocation.  It draws conclusions, with correlative implications, from these interviews.  Southern Baptist ministers, generally, are not adversely affected by ministry in the military.  They usually return successfully to ministry within their denomination. Some reference is made to the Australian context in which the BCP is used.  Revision of the collects is assisted by theological and linguistic criticism.
