The project uses a theoretical method to define the concept of ministry in the light of a biblical, theological understanding.  In a practical analysis, it compares the current program with the defined one.  A proposed model encourages the interaction of professors and ministers on the flexibility of content and form.  It will help raise the consciousness of the ministers and help professionalize and functionalize ministry. The ministers active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church prior to merger still feel much resentment and frustration fourteen years after the 1968 merger with the Methodist Church. The project studies three Pentecost services and their levels of worship experimentation by using an evaluative questionnaire.  These demonstrate that while people want traditional worship events, they experience worship within non-traditional worship approaches. The thesis of this project is that these principles can be applied to the lay pastoral care of an individual congregation and thus can provide a place to support both dying persons and their families.  The project develops a prototype program and curriculum which provides training in medical, emotional and spiritual care, as well as counselor training.  The curriculum was tested over an eight month period among eighty-one persons from thirteen congregations in Fresno, California. The author taught Survey of the Old Testament at East Texas State University in the fall of 1985.  The course design included an understanding of the Old Testament as a canon of liberation and the teaching model focused on the development of a dialogical relationship between the students and the material.
