The research method was active listening and observing, then recording parishioiners' subjective spiritual concerns.  Data was accumulated over ten years. They claimed to now have a heart relationship with the Lord they didn't have before. They found a caring attitude, a warm and loving support community of faith they had not experienced.  They objected to the social-activist position of mainline churches. A six-week Lenten series of sermons, workshops and model meditative prayers provide a broad approach to an entire congregation.  The project report contains scriptural and theological support. Areas of similarity and weakness were identified. The author's experience during twenty-five years of ministry indicated a serious lack of knowledge by persons serving in that office; therefore, a biblical and historical study of the office of elder was made.  When the study was concluded, the material became part of a course of study designed for elders and deacons-elect in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
