This covenant in Christ provides the context for our spiritual growth since we cannot mature spirtually outside of God's grace. The sermon situation is defined as a spirit-intensive encounter between preacher and congregation, based on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, as found in a Wesleyan Holiness denomination. The project addresses two issues.  The first is the lack of theological hermeneutics in most mainline Protestants.  The second is a personal need within the author to rework his own understanding of christology.  The education model utilized David Ausabel's 'advance organizer' model because of its techniques of imparting large blocks of new information, and Thomas Groome's 'shared praxis' approach because of its techniques of hooking the inner story of the participant into the story being taught.  As evaluation, class members were tested for content, acceptance of controversial issues, and the adequacy of the education model. The desired effect was to know the fact of one's death to be an impetus for life. This report outlines theological and psychological bases for the concept of anticipatory grief.  Methodology entailed determination of issues the participants wanted addressed as well as delineation of the mechanics of the phenomenon of anticipatory grief.  The project showed a positive correlation between a constructive sense of anticipatory grief and a sense of meaning for life. This project tested the hypothesis by means of a series of planning sessions designed around major points of Barth's ecclesiology.  Each of these sessions consisted of lessons on the nature and mission of the church followed by periods of program analysis and planning.
