Through the support, encouragement, and accountability that came through a small group environment, participants learned how to practice historical spiritual spiritual disciplines, identify those they believed would be most helpful for their Christian growth, and developed a plan to incorporate these into their lives. The project involved recruiting a team, training the team in evangelism, identifying and meeting community needs, building relationships with unsaved persons in the church's neighborhood, and presenting the gospel as opporunity arose. The focus of the project was to establish and lead a cross-cultural team, composed of pastors, ministry leaders, education specialists, and lay leaders drawn from VMCM membership, to develop a leadership training program and document that program in a training program plan. The objectives consisted of helping the participants to grow as disciples of Christ, recognizing their calling and value in discipleship ministry, and to engage them in a discipleship relationship with another man.
