A biblical and theological foundation for revitalization is presented through a reading of Jesus' letter to the church in Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6). The second half documents the implementation of the Embers to a Flame model at First Reformed Church. The guide gives an introduction to ecclesiology, assuming that most military personnel are unaware of this important doctrine. To further help them, it also contains a list of resources and a checklist as they research churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126308759011328,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:25:58.103Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:33:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:44:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0b4ed45a-7783-42c5-a0d9-f474b15a30f5","accessControl_ssim":["1d3f0e3c-154c-45b4-8fb5-32d69b14b5cc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Impact Of And Response To Western Missionaries' Deaths In Both Korean Christianity And Western Christianities, 1865-1912, Based On The Missionaries Of Four Presbyterian Churches And Premillennialism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:33:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:25:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d805e08d-f5d9-4457-9a48-6470724adff9"],"hasLease_ssim":["5e5b71b7-7f3b-475c-9f3a-610d6010dbf6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William Yoo"],"year_tesim":["2017"],"location_tesim":["Korea"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Uijin Jung"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Death is an essential issue for human beings of all ages. Throughout Christian history, we can say that some sacrificial deaths, those that derive from love of both God and others, bear fruit. This study aims to examine how such deaths resulted in the expansion of Christian mission by surveying the legacies of four missionaries from four Presbyterian churches who died suddenly in the line of duty. Those missionaries are John W. Heron of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, Lottie Witherspoon Bell of the Presbyterian Church of the United States, William J. McKenzie of the Presbyterian Church of Canada, and Joseph Henry Davies of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, Australia.I will briefly ascertain the afore-mentioned missionaries' motivations for mission to Korea, and the process that carried them from the start to the end of their mission. Then, I will focus on the interplay between their deaths and their influence in both Korean Christianity and Western Christianities as a case study in World Christianity by investigating the activities of remaining family members, colleagues, natives, and their home churches. In order to clarify why their deaths had such a deep impact, I will particularly delve into the influence of deaths as a social phenomenon through the theology of premillennialism to which Western missionaries subscribed. The time period of focus for this study is from 1865, the year the Civil War in the United States ended, to 1912, the year the Korean Church dispatched its first cross-cultural missionary to China."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127466836754432,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:44:22.532Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:33:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:39:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bbb3534b-0d5f-4f9c-a347-84009fdcd4b3","accessControl_ssim":["43b6d890-46f6-41a1-be39-2a07f60c1702"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["How to Build a Healthy Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:33:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:32:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["553fe8f4-534f-4ddf-9e0b-fd9b88ed6212"],"hasLease_ssim":["debdb6b7-0a93-495d-91f4-b8c17db85c3b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Hing Wong"],"year_tesim":["2017"],"location_tesim":["North America"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Peter P Jeng"],"keyword_tesim":["Chinese--North America"],"publisher_tesim":["Logos Evangelical Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Church management","Pastoral theology--Catholic Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["It was assumed that by combining the Church Survey of Natural Church Development and Beeson Church Health Questionnaire together, the evaluation of church health status could be more effective and objective.
