In order to understand these obstacles the researcher did a theological review of the values of Jesus' Kingdom and a literature review of the values of suburban middle-class culture. Of particular interest to the researcher is the significant amount of time and money that people invest in sports. The goal was to find factors that contribute to the after-care worker's tenure. Four case studies focused on questions related to burnout, secondary trauma, support and training. Significant findings revealed issues in categories of motivation, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, vicarious victimization, compassion fatigue, self-care, support and training. After-care workers universally reported significant burnout and secondary trauma. Training, support and healthy self-care measures were found to be a contributing factor of longevity. The author initially supports the practice's legitimacy by describing spiritual direction and offering an historical review of its evolution since the fourth century.  The connection between Scripture and spiritual direction is explored to further encourage Protestants to practice spiritual direction.  A theological perspective of spiritual direction is proposed, specifically regarding the doctrines of God, revelation, and the Holy Spirit.  The last chapter discusses spiritual direction's relationship with evangelicals, gen-Xers, and pastors. Through narrative analysis method based on interviews, with consideration of extensive written sources, the author was able to explore various views on what constitutes genuine reconciliation. The author concludes, as a result, that in genuine reconciliation there are basic spiritual and social elements that must be considered. Mixed methods grounded theory research was used to compare the statistical data from each survey result to the qualitative data obtained from interviews of church members. The empowerment this brings may offset the feelings of helplessness, anger and disappointment among those adversely affected when their church building is closed. Relevant research in consolidations is brought into dialogue with Church documents related to liturgy and the place where it takes happens, as well as to scholarship on theories of space land place. A marriage seminar was provided for four married couples dealing with chemical addiction in their marriage.  The participants learned about formational prayer principles, core longings, dysfunctional behaviors and emotional attachment.  The results were measured using a verbal extent scale. The methodology was qualitative research with a case study approach utilizing four primary forms of data: interviews, surveys, primary sources, and field observations. The researcher concluded that spiritual gifts are roles Christians are called to fill; natural talents (identified through StrengthsFinder personality assessment) are critical factors in filling those roles. Spiritual strengths occur as natural talents are applied to spiritual gifts.
