Many ministries have wholeheartedly embraced Internet technology through websites, blogs, live chats and a myriad of other applications. While thoughtful people have offered biblical perspective both endorsing and warning against this trend, there continues to be much need to carefully think about how new technologies can come alongside various aspects of ministry in a way that maximizes their benefits and minimizes their inherent dangers. This project explores how the Internet can enhance the impact of a preaching ministry by providing a forum to discuss the content of a sermon after it has been delivered. The goal is to provide a theological and practical curriculum to help current or future Pentecostal ministers prepare expository sermons. This project will argue that there are three components to preparing an effective expository sermon. These components are the preacher, the audience, and the message. Pentecostal preachers need to look at each of these components in order to prepare an effective expository sermon. Through a review of biblical literature it demonstrates the Bible's various techniques to create mental images to communicate God's truth. Through an examination of secular research and practices, the author demonstrates the importance of imagery in memory. Through a perusal of both ancient and modern history it demonstrates how skillful communicators across the ages have used imagery for effectiveness in communication. The author then applies the insights to homiletics. These churches may, however, be incorrectly applying general societal concerns about commitment to Christians who are seeking commitment. A substantial group of people in the current study desired to become church members, but, because of church leadership de-emphasis of formal membership, had limited avenues to express this element of their faith. Designed to assist church leaders and parishioners in finding new understanding and meaning in formal church membership, the study offers a biblical and theological guide for those struggling with the concept of church membership, as well as a review of significant literature relating to the subject. Two local churches were selected for a three hour seminar on church membership. The top 3 'preventable' causes identified were: interpersonal problems with peers (other missionaries/colleagues); inner personal problems; and immature spiritual life. The focus of this thesis project is to show how the Great Commandment directly addresses the issues raised by the ReMAP 1 survey. The project delineates how the Great Commandment passages provide a spirituality that guides a missionary in their spiritual formation process. The Great Commandment provides 'cardinal points' like those of a compass that serves to orient a missionary in the midst of the challenges he or she faces. This determination will be made by interviewing and recording their responses to questions that are both open-ended and close-ended. Following this interview process, the author also interviewed a smaller sample from other local churches. A comparison of the responses helped the author determine how much of the New Covenant theology has been grasped and its effect on people's spiritual maturation. The results were encouraging and varied greatly between the two sample groups. An ethnographic approach to ten church plants were included in this study. Three of the plants were investigated further with additional site visits, surveys and interviews with leaders and members of the church plant community. Four key principles were identified that contributed to the success of the church plant. The research highlights these points: (a) Many conservative evangelical women live within a male-preferred cultural context that defines them through a model of goodness and inequality. (b) Historically, some of these women have sought an identity beyond home and family. (c) In response to the feminist movement, many conservative evangelical churches grounded women's identity in the home, family, and church. (d) The church's response created an ongoing theological debate about women's roles that negatively affects women. The biblical research defines female personhood through the doctrine of the imago Dei and explores its meaning for women today by relating the imago Dei with the doctrine of Christology. Several of Paul's scriptural passages with regard to women are also interpreted through these two doctrines. Finally, the research findings confirm that some conservative evangelical Christian women report a depressive mood and that there are various reasons why.
