The tension stems from the fact that those who immigrate consequently face cultural changes. With such tension come the maladies that are often, if not always, psychological in nature. Children of immigrants are caught between cultures and have to make a choice to either immerse in their adopted culture or keep their traditional, ancestral culture. Pastor as peacemaker is to be a program-centered project consisting of twelve written lectures intended for a one unit (12 hour) course to be taught as an interim course at a reformed seminary (e.g., a weeklong course, four days three hours per day). Research was three-fold: anaylsis of a biblical and theological doctrine of reconciliation, contemporary Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) theory and methods, and by way of student evaluation. The result was an effective theology and method of training pastors to be peacemakers in their churches. Points of emphasis included a rationale for the large percentage of its African American students and the opportunity the DCP-CMN program had to equip alumni to reach the Pittsburgh region's unreached peoples-especially its international students. Interviews described servant-leaders who exemplified the categories found in Jenning's and Stahl-Wert's book, The Serving Leader. The study concluded that, overall, the DCP-CMN program fulfilled Geneva College's Mission Statement. Lack of basic HIV/AIDS knowledge, risky behavior, religious conservatism, stigma, fear of status being exposed to other community members, and socioeconomic issues are some factors that contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS within African-American populations. African Americans have close ties to the church, but the African American churches, until recently, have been slow to address HIV prevention. Several successful churches and faith based/public health collaborations were identified, with some limitations within these programs discussed, but too many are doing nothing. This study examines the community churches and reviews the empirical literature on faith-based HIV prevention programs among African American populations. Alongside this growth is also the fast growth of the church in Africa. The growth of cities could be rich fields for harvest for the church if it is able to use this growth as viable field for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most seminaries in Africa have not yet awaken to the challenge of training pastors who are able to tackle adequately the urban challenges that face the church in Africa today. In order to provide the desired training for pastors who will be able to minister in the city, this project is written with the view to developing an urban ministry curriculum for the Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) Mkar in Nigeria. The research led to the development of integrated wellness training and an integrated clergy self-care plan that was tested on a target group of Salvation Army officers in the Arkansas-Oklahoma division. This study presents a compelling argument that optimum wellness hinges on the balance and integration of body, mind, and spirit. It demonstrated that pastoral care must flow out of the minister's self-care, and that the minister's own degree of wholeness profoundly impacts the integrity of ministry to others.  Integrative wellness retreats were conducted as a key aspect of this thesis project. It has been demonstrated through comparative analysis of pre- and post-test survey data that the teaching that was conducted and integrated clergy self-care plans that were developed positively modified the behaviors of participating officers.
