This thesis-project employs proactive research methods to accomplish its objectives. Chapter one identifies the problem of not properly understanding the nature, place and role of Christian formation and describes the ministry context of Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church. Chapter two examines the biblical foundation for Christian formation and chapter three explores its theological framework. The researcher was of the opinion that a few well chosen and developed ministries would increase male engagement at the church. The project proved to the researcher that ministries used in isolation to rejuvenate males and stimulate church growth fall short of their intended goals. They sparked interested and motivated the male members for the short-term. Young adult faith development, the prophetic possibilities of experiential education, and the archetypal quest for authentic spirituality inform an analysis of participants' reflections from five iterations of the course. Field research was conducted on over sixty churches that had reproduced at least three churches over a twenty-year period. Churches were first surveyed with a questionnaire and the six churches, that planted a total of sixty-two churches, were selected for in-depth interviews. These were purposively selected for their diverse areas, sizes, denominations and styles. Six primary and eight secondary leaders were interviewed. Biblical and historical moorings of church membership were examined, particularly the exercise of corrective church discipline. Means were sought for the skillful oversight of church membership and for the propagation of an environment which nurtures congregational appreciation for it. From the viewpoint of change theology, all of these developments may be the manifestation of a natural process of aging.  What would happen if instead of resisting these changes, we processed them as stepping stones to a new spiritual maturity?
