To explore the role of denominations and discipleship, this thesis analyzes the relationship between traditional and contemporary forms of discipleship and denominational vitality. Specifically, it examines the role of the Advent Christian denomination in the lives of a group of worshippers at Northside Community Church. Using adult learning theory and social constructivism, this study reveals how one group of believers has constructed their organizational identities within the Advent Christian denomination and how relationships with other disciples who proclaim to follow Jesus Christ impact their system of beliefs. The project director studied key resources in order to determine the essential elements of an evangelistic preaching model and established a standard of research. The project director submitted the essential elements and the standard of research for review to experts in evangelistic preaching. Following the identification of the essential elements of an evangelistic preaching model, the project director developed four sermons based on the evangelistic preaching model. The project director then preached the sermons to the congregation of The Beginnings Church.
