Principles and insights of the action science model developed by Argyris and Schon (1974) and the ideas of Wenger on informal 'communities of practice' (1998) undergird three ministry-based explorations. A Practicum group, a Roman Catholic group and an Elementary School Faculty were tested for evidence of a community of practice and any personal or communal transformations. The results demonstrate that communities of practice do exist in religious settings and can be a seedbed for emerging practices and that action science provides tools to complement existing religious disciplines."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133245468835840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:16:13.465Z","score":6.9339037},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:07:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:26:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"115dbd8d-0aa4-4fbe-ab0e-d8b341d10944","accessControl_ssim":["abebecfd-74b5-4550-8240-0024290346f4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A map through the minefield: church merger as a strategy for starting new faith communities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:07:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:37:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["91fb6b92-fb20-4eb1-923d-98ebb4782854"],"hasLease_ssim":["a8c28e82-3917-4b64-b4c5-ce54dd563262"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Burrell D Dinkins"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kelly D McClendon"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Local church mergers","United Methodist Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study is to explore the phenomenon of church merger and consider variables which may influence the effectiveness of church merger. A survey of Christian and Missionary Alliance (C\u0026MA) pastors and staff was completed in 1998 using the Western Pennsylvania District of the C\u0026MA as a sample. The survey sought to determine the rate of forced exits and factors involved in forced exits. These rates and factors were compared to two previous studies of forced exits (Crowell, 1990, and LaRue, 1996).
