  • Pastoral care has become a challenge for hospitals struggling to provide optimal services on minimal budgets. This project examines a successful chaplaincy training program at Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which educated 40 community volunteers in a 12-week course over a three-year period. These trained volunteers enabled the hospital to continue providing 24-hour pastoral care. Participants also acquired valuable skills that they could use in their various faith communities.
