  • The present study germs from the search for a solution to the pastoral conflicts rampant among the Syro-Malabar immigrant parishes in the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago in the United States, especially in the area of transmitting traditional faith precepts and practices of the first-generation immigrants from Kerala (South India) to their second generation - born and brought up in this country. Exploring the issues supported by empirical research, the study discloses the cultural and generational differences that influence the celebration and transmission of the Syro-Malabar ecclesial heritage in the new place of settlement and attempts to offer practical solutions based on communion ecclesiology and the principle of correlation. It proposes intercultural and intergenerational methods of faith-transmission among the immigrant generations and suggests the facilitation for heuristic emergence of newer manifestations of the ancient Syro-Malabar heritage in the American context.
